A Barad course

Cabling methods and installation considerations

Practical6 learning sections

Before opening the reel, we review the route and the method of work: from transport and pulling the cable to bending, the splice point, and the documents needed to hand the job over.

The outline on this page is a proposal; the final program is announced before registration.

Cable installation methods and considerations

Who this course is for

Site supervisors, installation technicians and project inspectors

Before you join

Familiarity with optical cable construction; studying the cable types course is recommended.

What the program covers

  • Preparing an installation plan that suits the route
  • Spotting installation limits from the datasheet
  • Setting up the checklist and handover documents
Learning path

Proposed course outline

The proposed program is laid out in six sections. Ask us about the details of the exercises and the tools you will need before you join.

01Route survey and preparation
  • Inspecting the route, access points and splice locations
  • Checking the duct, manholes, trays and obstacles along the route
  • Setting the method of work and the control plan before installation
02Transporting and preparing the reel
  • Visually checking the cable and the reel information
  • The method for securing the reel, the unwinding direction and protecting the cable end
  • Recording the length, reel number and the results of the initial check
03Pulling cable through a duct route
  • Bend radius and permitted pulling force according to the datasheet
  • Layout of the reel, rollers, pulling equipment and team communication
  • Monitoring the pull and recording the state of the route during the work
04Blown installation
  • Understanding microducts and blowing equipment
  • The effect of route conditions and the compatibility of cable and duct diameter
  • Checking working conditions and parameters according to the manufacturer's instructions
05Aerial and in-building installation
  • Choosing hardware and coordinating with the route's engineering design
  • Securing the cable, storing slack length and protecting entry points
  • Separating routes and managing bend radius inside a building
06Checking, labeling and handover
  • Checking the cable after installation and before connection
  • Preparing an as-built drawing and recording the installed lengths
  • Safety checklist, defect list and handover documents

Suggested exercise

For a sample duct route, prepare an equipment layout drawing, a pre-installation check list and an operations log form.

Is this outline the final program?

This page is a proposed plan for the course content. The actual outline, the way it is delivered and the details of the exercises are agreed with participants before registration.

How are the time, cost and venue set?

To get this information, submit a coordination request for this course. The date, cost, instructor and venue are announced once the program is confirmed.

Does the course include hands-on practice?

This plan proposes one practical exercise. Running it as a workshop and using equipment depends on the facilities and the final program.
